While Oslo is not a cheap shopping destination, you can still find best buys in the city for as long as you do not prefer brand names sold by specialty shops.

Book lovers will find Tanum along Karl Johans gate a great shop for books. The shops within walking distance of the Radisson SAS Plaza are the best choices for not so expensive items.

Aker Brygge is also an ideal place for shopping as it is the location of a variety of shops and bars. Quilts, pottery products and blown glasses can be found at Bærums Verk although it is not within the city proper. For sweaters you can go to the Oslo Sweater Shop at Tullins fate 5 or at William Schmidt at Karl Johans gate 41. To get the feel of Oslo, visit Stortorget, an open air market that’s sells all types of items including clothing, flowers, and souvenir items. Adjacent to the cathedral is an indoor market that’s ells handicrafts and antiques.

Oslo shops open early (9:00AM) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but they are open only up to 7:00PM. It is better to shop during weekdays as some shops close as late as 8:00PM; the shops close early (5:00 to 6:00 PM) during Saturdays.
